Hi Y’All! I’m Janice, co-founder of The Happiness Retreat, Mama to Dylan and fur baby Maya, and wife to my soul mate JP! I'm really excited to dive into essential oils with you today in this blog post. Essential oils have really supported me in my emotions throughout my pregnancy and since Dylan has come into the world. This is one of the biggest reasons as to why I took the jump and committed to using oils every single day. And let me reiterate; daily use is key. This is how you see results. This is just be a small glimpse into the world of essential oils and our emotions. I encourage each of you to continue doing your research post this class and dig deeper into the areas you need the most support! One note before we dive in is regarding the brand/type of EO that you choose to use. Make sure you do your homework and that the soil the crops are planted in have never been touched with pesticides or herbicides so that toxins are not present in the plants or oils. If you have more questions about this or are looking for recommendations comment below and Lauren and I would be happy to share our favorites 😊
How can oils benefit our emotions? Have you ever heard someone recommend that you rub certain essential oils on your feet?? I always wondered, “why your feet”? Well in a conversation with my local muses, I learned that the feet are where oils penetrate the skin the best! Essential oils can penetrate cell membranes and cross the brain-blood barrier within second; this allows them to reach the emotional center of our brain where all of our emotions are stored. Essential oils support the body to come back into balance. They can have a powerful influence over how we think, how we feel and how we behave. We can get back into balance using oils, simply through smelling them, through scents. If you think of a warm day at the beach, one of the first things that comes to mind is the smell of the salty air. My mood changes just thinking about it. Other examples you can think of is the smell of your favorite food or a fresh Christmas tree, or the outdoors after a nice rain storm. Remembering these smells bring waves of positive energy to me every day. Where to start supporting your emotions with oils? I am going to share about the oils that are included in the Young Living premium starter kit oils because these are the oils that I choose to use. Many if not all of these oils can be purchased other places than just through Young Living, in fact, you likely have at least a few of them already lying around your house! COPAIBA: + Add this to homemade body butter or shaving cream + Sweet, warm honey-like scent + Can be used to improve moods + May help relax muscles + May help with irritability + May help on days you feel like you have the blues + May promote feelings of contentment and peace DIGIZE The primary use for this oil is to support with digestion. How does that support with emotions you are probable asking yourself?? For those whose emotional stress plays a big part in stomach discomfort this would be a great oil for you to look into. + Includes oils such as Juniper which may help bring balance to emotions and the impact of stress of your digestion + I personally use one drop in my water after dinner! FRANKINCENSE I love this oil. Definitely one of my favorites hands down. I use it daily + Joy in a roller and apply to me wrists, then inhale; or rub on the bottom of my feet if I am in need of feeling more grounded. + Grounding + May to be supportive of feelings of fear, loneliness, or insecure + May be calming and relaxing LAVENDER I can't think of hardly anything I don’t use lavender for. I essentially rub it all over my body every day. + May help sleep more restfully + Calming + Safe with little ones (diluted) + May support with irritability and frustration LEMON Studies have shown that just inhaling lemon essential oil can help with feelings of sadness. + May help with clarity of thought + May be uplifting + May help with focus and concentration PANAWAY The main purpose of this oil is to help soothe sore muscles. AND it can be used to support emotions as well, through feeling more energized and uplifted. Place one drop in hands, rub together and inhale. + Cool and invigorating smell + May promote feelings of energy + May be uplifting to body and mind + May support in feelings of vibrancy and letting go PEPPERMINT Another one of my favorites, and It has so many uses. The world would not be the same without Stress Away. + Lime and vanilla two key ingredients + May be helpful with emotional stress + May be helpful with nervousness + May help promote relaxation + May promote calming feelings + Would recommend adding your roller top to this bottle and roll it on wrists, chest and the back of your neck! I also LOVE it diffused - Stress Away + Citrus Fresh. THIEVES Thieves is a powerhouse. It has so many uses for helping boosting our immune system but may also help with our emotions as well. + May support in relaxation + Smells like Christmastime {if that is one of your happy place scents, this oil is definitely for you} + May promote feelings of clarity and focus + May help with feelings of uncertainty SOME MORE OF MY FAVORITES There are many other oils that are amazing support for our emotions outside of what I just shared about. For example; I use Joy + Frank DAILY. They are incredible separate and together. A few other favorites are Humility, White Angelica and Inner Child. Oils are not a magic potion that will bring you happiness and joy automatically, and they are absolutely beautiful tools that can be used to help support us in the ways that we need. Celebrate the emotions that we feel, and then ensure you are armed with your oils to help move through them. Other EO Use ideas… + one drop Valor + One drop Joy on wrists- morning and night. One drop of Joy on chest. + Frankincense on face and back of neck {good before bed routine} + Stress Away Roll on - wrists {different time of day than the joy/valor} Great daily diffuser combos for emotions are… + Joy + Tangerine. + Stress Away + Citrus Fresh. + White Angelica. + Release + Purification + Joy. + Frank + Lemon + Stress Away.
